#GeorgianHeroes - Mikheil Tumanishvili / მიხეილ თუმანიშვილი (1921–1996) was one of the most influential Georgian theatre director, teacher, and cultural figure of the 20th century. Tumanishvili played a major role in shaping modern Georgian theatre through his innovative directing style and emphasis on actor training. In 1978, he founded the Tumanishvili Film Actors Theatre, which became a center for experimental and actor-focused performances.
#GeorgianHeroes – Iakob Gogebashvili / იაკობ გოგებაშვილი - (1840-1912) was a Georgian educator, children’s writer and journalist, considered to be the founder of the scientific pedagogy in Georgia. Through his masterly compiled children's primer, Mother Language (დედა ენა), which in a modified form serves to this day as a text book in Georgian schools, every Georgian since 1880 has learnt to read and write in their native language.

#GeorgianHeroes - Akaki Tsereteli / აკაკი წერეთელი (1840-1915) was a prominent Georgian poet and national liberation movement figure. Akaki Tsereteli contributed greatly to the foundation of “the Society of Literacy Spreading among the Georgians”, the development of the Georgian Journalism, establishment of the permanent theatre troupe. He began to write poetry in his early years. Being the author of hundred of remarkable patriotic, historical, lyrical and satiric poems, also humoristic stories and autobiographic novels. The generation of 1860s led by Chavchavdze and Tsereteli protested against the Tsarist regime and campaigned for cultural revival and self-determination of the Georgians. Tsereteli’s public prominence was fully revealed in 1908 when his 50th jubilee and trip to Racha-Lechkhumi were turned into a national celebration attended by many Georgian writers and public figures and produced the first Georgian documentary film.
#GeorgianHeroes - Kote Marjanishvili (1872-1933) was born in Kvareli (Kakheti Region). He was the founder of Georgian modern theater. Kote Marjanishvili was the first Georgian director to stage a street performance in Tbilisi. He worked as a film and opera director also. Drawing on his earlier work in cinema, Marjanishvili skillfully integrated cinematic elements into his stage productions. He became known as a polystylistic director—an approach that made him truly unique. Kote Marjanishvili was also an outstanding teacher who nurtured generations of Georgian theater professionals.
#GeorgianHeroes - Luka Razikashvili a.k.a Vazha-Pshavela (1861-1915), is one of Georgia’s greatest mind and all-time iconic poet. Vazha-Pshavela was born in the little village of Chargali, situated in the mountainous Pshavi province of Eastern Georgia. Vazha-Pshavela is believed to be one of Georgia's greatest modern geniuses. Ekvtime Takaishvili (1862-1953) was a Georgian historian, archaeologist, public benefactor and Eastern Orthodox saint. on October 17, 2002, the Georgian Orthodox Church canonized him as a saint, bestowing upon him the title of Saint Ekvtime, Man of God.
#GeorgianHeroes • Giorgi Chubinashvili (1885 - 1973) was a Georgian art historian and the founder of Georgian art studies. Giorgi Chubinashvili was born in St. Petersburg, and studied psychology at the universities of Leipzig and Halle. During 1916-17 he studied Georgian-Armenian-Persian philology at the Petrograd University. His works are chiefly focused on medieval Georgian and Armenian architecture, as well as on wall painting and sculpture. Chubinashvili’s works revealed the historical and artistic value of Georgian art, its national identity. For more than half a century, Giorgi Chubinashvili was an active participant and often the leader of all the activities that were carried out in Georgia in the field of research and protection of monuments of material culture, museums and ancient art exhibitions. He was one of the founding fathers of Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and first rector in 1922–26’s. From 1941 until his death, he directed the Institute of the History of Georgian Arts at the Georgian Academy of Sciences. Currently the National Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation has been named after Giorgi Chubinashvili’s name.
Georgian Heroes - ILIA CHAVCHAVADZE (ილია ჭავჭავაძე, 1837-1907) regarded as the "Father of the Nation” was a journalist, publisher, writer and poet. Ilia completed his legal education at the St. Petersburg University Faculty of Law. He was the leader of the founders of the new movement called "Tergdaleulebi”. Ilia created a new literary style of Georgian language that was understandable to Georgians from all social classes and places. Using this new language, Ilia launched the newspaper ‘Iveria.’ Prior to that, he had founded the magazine ‘Georgian Moambe’. Iveria aimed to bring all Georgians together around a single, unifying concept: Georgia's future autonomy and ultimate independence. One of the Ilia’s most significant undertakings, achieved together with other progressive representatives of his rank, was the establishment of the National Bank. Ilia was the head of this bank for some time, and even spent several months in St. Petersburg studying banking. His stories, novels, poems, as well as his journalistic writings are still alive. Sandro Akhmeteli (სანდრო ახმეტელი, 1886-1937) was a Georgian theater director and one of the founders of modern Georgian theater. His innovative conceptions creating mass scenes profoundly influenced the evolution of Georgian theater. His creativity was distinguished by the fact that he created the so-called “Georgian character” on the stage. He is also the author of the most important essay in Georgian theater history “Is the Georgian theater Georgian?”. Sandro Akhmeteli directed, from 1926 to 1935, the Rustaveli Theater in Tbilisi, Georgia and transformed it into one of the most successful troupes in the Soviet Union. Sandro Akhmeteli established Georgian artists cooperation “Duruji”.
