LALAEVA-EDIBERIDZE

Ema Lalaeva-Ediberidze (ემა ლალაევა-ედიბერიძე. 1904-1991) was an artist of Armenian origin, who resided in Tbilisi and was an active  participant in international cultural life of 1920s. Her work is central to the early history of the Georgian avant garde and essential to our understanding of Georgian modernism.

Ema Lalaeva-Ediberidze entered the Tbilisi State Academy of Art in 1921.. In 1924-1928 she continued her studies at the academy’s graphic design department. Starting in the 1930s she tried her hand in almost all media of art. Her pseudonym was Lali.

Lali never had a personal exhibition during her lifetime, and her first solo show was held in 2001 in Tbilisi
