Irine Abesadze

Irine Abesadze (ირინე აბესაძე) is a Doctor of Arts (1982) and a Doctor of Historical Sciences (1999), as well as Professor Emeritus of the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film Georgia State University. She delivers lectures on Art Theory and Criticism at Master's and Doctoral levels of education in Art History at the Shota Rustaveli State University of Cinema and Theater of Georgia, and in the History of Art at Master's level at the Akaki Tsereteli State University. Under her scientific supervision, numerous master's and doctoral students have defended their scientific theses. Irine Abesadze is the author of approximately 150 scientific works, including the monographs: “Shalva Kikodze” (1990); “Dimitri Shevardnadze” (1998, co-authored by T. Bagratishvili); the albums: “Rusudan Javrishvili” (1990); “Dimitri Shevardnadze” (2001); "Shalva Kikodze’s Cultural Heritage" (2005); she is author of the foreword to the catalog "Modern Georgian Art. Merab Abramishvili and Levan Margiani" (Cyprus, 2001); she compiled and published the two-volume edition "Everything about Pirosmani" in collaboration with Georgian artist Tengiz Mirzashvili (2013); and co-authored "Shalva Kikodze" with M. Tsitsishvili (2015). The following albums were also published under her authorship: "Zurab Samkharadze" (2016); "Shalva Dzneladze" (2017); "Giorgi Shkhvatsabaia" (2017); "Vladimer Kandelaki" (2018); and "Shalva Makashvili" (2019). She is the author of the supplementary manual: "The Factor of National Culture in the Creative Work of the ‘Georgian Society of Artists’ - 1916-1932" (2021). In 2022, a monographic research paper was published under her authorship: "At the Origins of the Creation of the Union of Artists of Georgia," as well as the album: "Aleksandre Tsimakuridze and his Landscape School," and the electronic catalog "A Family Dynasty of Artists: Margarita, Shota, and Merab Metreveli.", She also published the English language album "Lado-Gudiashvili" in collaboration with Nino Choghoshvili. Irine Abesadze is a member of the Board of the Creative Union of Georgian Artists. She has been awarded the “Order of Honor” by the President of Georgia.
