Mamuka Tsetskhladze’s Solo Exhibition “Arxiwarius” at ATINATI’s Art Center
ATINATI’s Art Center presents Arxiwarius, a solo exhibition by Georgian artist Mamuka Tsetskhladze, featuring works created during the 1980s and 1990s.
Born in 1960, Mamuka Tsetskhladze is one of the most distinguished figures in contemporary Georgian art.
The period represented in the exhibition reflects one of the most significant stages of the artist’s creative development. The exhibited works were created during a time when Tsetskhladze was closely associated with two of the most important informal artistic movements in Georgia: Archivarius and the so-called Tenth Floor. In 1984, together with Karlo Kacharava, Gia Loria, and Goga Maglakelidze, he co-founded the avant-garde artistic group Archivarius, which left a lasting mark on contemporary Georgian visual culture. Between 1985 and 1986, a broader informal artistic community known as the Tenth Floor emerged around the Archivarius group. It became not only a gathering point for the four founders but also a center for a wider circle of young avant-garde artists.
The exhibition carries a particularly emotional significance. Mamuka Tsetskhladze dedicates Archivarius to the memory of Lika Kacharava and Karlo Kacharava. Following Karlo Kacharava’s death in 1994, Lika Kacharava devoted her life to preserving and promoting his artistic legacy. Sadly, she passed away only recently. Tsetskhladze shared a close and enduring friendship with both of them. The exhibition will also feature several works by Karlo Kacharava alongside archival photographs and documentary materials.
The exhibition brings together works from the ATINATI Private Collection, as well as pieces from other private collection and the artist’s own collection.
